Professional Skipper Course in Sardinia – Charter Training in the Strait of Bonifacio
On the border between Sardinia and Corsica, where the clash of mistral and scirocco, busy traffic, shoals and hazards make this the world’s temple of sailing, in a setting unlike any other, Captains and Crew runs its intensive professional charter skipper course.
With the cooperation of local charter companies and the hospitality of the marinas of Cala dei Sardi, Olbia and Marina di Portisco and the island of La Maddalena, we train professionals for the Mediterranean charter fleets.
Why the Strait of Bonifacio for Charter Training
The Strait of Bonifacio is one of the most demanding sailing areas in the Mediterranean, making it the ideal arena for training skippers who intend to work in international professional charter. These waters offer:
- Changeable and challenging weather and sea conditions
- Heavy recreational traffic typical of charter areas
- Archipelago navigation among shoals and hazards
- A real-world setting for Mediterranean charter work
A Vocational School for Yacht Charter
Captains and Crew is a highly vocational school for Mediterranean charter skippers. We take a hands-on, “learn the trade” approach, based on a detailed and rigorous syllabus that turns into practical fundamentals what theory alone – the knowledge gained on the professional courses already completed – cannot provide.
This training is therefore aimed at those who already work in yacht charter, or at least already hold the qualifications and licences to do so, but wish to deepen their skills and abilities to stand out in a job market which, in Italy, is heavily affected by foreign competition.
A Team of MCA-Qualified Instructors
The Captains and Crew instructor team, led by Ugo Carsana and Simone Dal Fiume, is highly qualified (MCA yacht officers and masters, Yachtmaster Ocean) and aims to train a new generation of charter yacht skippers.
We run advanced courses that are true master classes for yacht charter professionals and for those who, on a personal level, want to enjoy the sea fully in command.
Charter Skipper Course Syllabus
The intensive course covers every operational aspect of professional charter work:
- Charter sailing: guest management, safety briefings, itineraries
- Applied meteorology: operational decisions, shelter, passage planning
- Crew management: onboard dynamics, problem solving
- Boat handling in harbour: tricky moorings, berthing in strong winds
- Charter emergencies: medical evacuations, technical failures, communications

- International charter companies in the Mediterranean
- Fleets offering skippered charter
- Seasonal deliveries and Atlantic crossings
- Advanced crew training projects
